Strain description

Pde6b (Phosphodiesterase 6B) is a gene encoding a subunit of the enzyme PDE6, which plays a crucial role in the retinal visual pathway. Several laboratory mouse strains possess natural mutations in this Pde6b gene (such as C3H/He and CBA/J), exhibiting retinal degeneration. This mouse strain was created to have normal retinas by genetic repair of the Pde6b mutation present in the CBA/J strain, which originally prone to retinal degeneration. This strain serves as a useful normal control for research on retinal degenerative diseases.
