Strain description

Knockout mice of the Fads3 gene produced by genome editing. Fads3 is a member of the Fatty acid desaturase (Fads) family. Fads3 introduces a cis double bond at the C14 position of the sphingosine portion of sphingosine-containing ceramide to synthesize sphingadien-containing ceramide. Sphingadienes are present in a wide range of tissues, and Fads3 expression is also widespread, but Fads3 knockout mice do not show any noticeable phenotype.
