Strain description

FAR1 is an isoenzyme of fatty acyl-CoA reductase (FAR), which synthesizes aliphatic alcohols from acyl-CoA. Far1 is expressed throughout the body and is involved in the production of ether lipid species, such as plasmalogens. Many Far1 knockout mice exhibit severe symptoms, including neonatal lethality and reduced body weight.
